The Shelburne Craft School offers classes and workshops in metal, glass, and blacksmithing in the historic Bunkhouse. The well-ventilated space comes equipped with large work tables and a variety of tools, including a buffer, torches, flex shafts, saws, hammers, stamps, grinders, a light table, soldering irons, and a zinc cutter.

Develop your own signature design with guidance to facilitate your independent small metals fabrication ideas. This is a mixed level studio designed for students have already taken a metals class and want to gain practice and experience in a metals studio. Bring your own materials and use some of ours including tools and metal for a practice piece in copper or brass.

WORKSHOP: Blacksmith

Instructor: Bob Wetzel

Using a forge, students will learn basic black smith techniques such as building and maintaining a fire, hammer control, and more. Students will create hooks, pokers and small leaves during this two-day workshop. Materials included. Please bring sack lunch.

ADULT: Stained Glass
Instructor:  Sarah Sprague

Learn the basics of working with stained glass using the copper-foil method pioneered by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Begin with a small “learning” project that will introduce you to fitting pieces, foiling, and soldering; and then create a small panel using a design of your own choosing.

In this is a one-day stained glass workshop. Learn to select glass, colors, cut glass and apply copper foil, solder, as you work on a small colorful glass design for hanging in your window. All materials will be supplied for this workshop. Bring a brown bag lunch.

WORKSHOP: Stained Glass with Chris Jeffrey
Instructor: Chris Jeffrey

This 2 day workshop is for beginners and for those with some prior experience who would like to brush up on their skills.  Students begin by making a small practice panel where they learn how to cut glass and how to put together and solder their panels using the copper foil technique of stained glass assembly.  Students will then make their own small stained glass windows, choosing from among several different designs provided by the instructor. Students should bring their own lunch.

Cancellation Policy

All classes must be paid for one week before the beginning of class. Refunds are given one week prior to class, 20% is non-refundable. No refunds for classes you miss during a session. We will not prorate the cost of a class for classes missed. For workshops, you must cancel one week prior to class for a refund (minus the 20%). A full refund will be given if we cancel a class due to low enrollment.

Winter Cancellation Policy: We follow the Shelburne Community School closing for adult day and after school classes, and office closing  CLICK HERE for up-to-date info.  If you are enrolled in an evening adult class or weekend workshop your instructor or a staff member will be in touch.  We will also post on our Facebook page.
