Community Renter Program

Community Renter Program Description

Program Goals:

The Community Renter Program promotes the craft of woodworking by providing affordable shop access to six experienced woodworkers in the local community.

Admission:

The program is largely directed toward previous participants in SCS woodworking courses and preference may be awarded to such applicants. However, woodworkers that have not participated in a SCS woodworking course, but who can demonstrate previous woodworking experience, are also encouraged to apply. We can accept four renters at the lower level and two at the higher level. Admission will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a waiting list of qualified applicants.

Program Costs:

The Community Renter Program has two pricepoints, one at $100/month and the other at $150/month, depending on the level of access you choose. Participants must pay rent by the first of the month or they may forego their space in the program and be replaced by someone on the waiting list.

What that Includes:

Community renters at the $100 level are guaranteed at least 72 hours of shop access per month or three evenings (6:00-9:00) per week and two weekends (9:00-6:00) per month. Renters at the $150 level are guaranteed these hours, with two week days (9:00- 6:00) in addition. Renters will be provided with an unenclosed space for wood/material storage.

Participant Responsibilities:

Community renters will be held responsible for safely and respectably using the shop space. This includes the safe use of tools, following shop protocols, and cleaning up after yourself. If such responsibilities are not being met, participants may be asked to withdraw from the program.

To apply, send an email to c.ramos919">Chris with the following information:

Your name, address, and day-time phone number. Please include a brief explanation of your woodworking experience, including the major tools with which you are familiar. Also include how many months you intend on committing to the Community Renter Program and a convenient time, 9 a.m.-6p.m., Monday to Friday, for you to complete the Shop Orientation and Safety Course. This takes about an hour.
